
I was a Senior Lecturer and the Course Leader for Theatre and Performance Design at the Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts. I was responsible for the undergraduate teaching of a wide variety of practical and theoretical design skills, including model-making, prop-making, puppetry, costume realisation and design from text. I led and directed many devised performance projects for theatre spaces and site-specific venues. I was a member of staff at LIPA from 1997 (on a part-time basis until 1999).
Co-founder of a puppet company called “Planning a Trifle”. The company’s first production “Front Window” received funding from Arts Council England and was performed at Unity Theatre, Liverpool in 2006 and 2008. An installation based on the show was exhibited at the Collaborators: Design for Theatre and Performance exhibition in Nottingham January 07 and at the V&A Museum from November ‘07 – August ‘08.

July 1999: “Lords and Ladies” by Terry Pratchett. An outdoor touring promenade for The London Bubble. Director Jonathan Petherbridge.
Mar. 1998: “Entertaining Mr Sloane” by Joe Orton. Bolton Octagon. Director Richard Beacham.
Sept. 1997: “The Life and Times Of Fanny Hill” by April de Angelis. The Dukes, Lancaster. Director Ewan Marshall.
Mar. 1997: “Frankie and Tommy” by Garry Lyons. Watford Palace. Director Peter Rowe.
June 1995: Member of the team representing the UK at the Prague Quadrennial – the international exhibition of theatre design. The UK entry was awarded a Gold Medal.
1991 – 1997: I worked as a freelance Theatre Designer for theatres and companies all over the U.K. including The Everyman, Cheltenham, Derby Playhouse, The Mercury, Colchester, The Forum, Wythenshawe, Chester Gateway, The Liverpool Playhouse, Opera Restor’d, LUDUS Dance Company, Solent Peoples Theatre, Southampton and the Bolton Octagon. During this time I designed over 30 productions and worked with a range of directors including Martin Houghton, Les Waters, Lawrence Till and Ian Forrest. I also worked in various Art Departments and Wardrobe Departments for TV and low budget film.

1986: Designed “3” a music theatre piece for The Tron, Glasgow. Directed by Michael Boyd.
